Frequently Asked Questions
UK-Turkey road freight, T1/T2 transit and customs — answered
What is the difference between T1 and T2 transit?
T1 covers non-Union goods (e.g. third-country imports moving through the EU). T2 covers Union or UK-status goods moving across non-EU territory. Both run on NCTS, both require a customs guarantee, and both let cargo cross borders without paying duties at every stop. We open and discharge both.
How long does road freight from the UK to Turkey take?
FTL (Full Truck Load): typically 7–9 days door-to-door. Groupage: 8–12 days door-to-door depending on consolidation. Express van: 24–72 hours for urgent consignments. All times exclude customs delays at the UK or Turkish border.
Do I need an ATR certificate?
Yes, if you want preferential (zero) customs duty on industrial goods moving between the UK and Turkey under the UK-Turkey trade agreement. We issue ATR movement certificates for qualifying shipments. Agricultural products and coal/steel use different preference rules.
What is NCTS and why does it matter?
NCTS (New Computerised Transit System) is the electronic system used to open, monitor and discharge T1 and T2 transit movements across CTC countries. Without an NCTS declaration, your goods can't legally move under transit — they'd need a full import declaration at every border.
Do you handle hazardous (ADR) cargo?
Yes — we operate ADR-compliant equipment and dispatch drivers trained to handle dangerous goods. Send us the UN number, packing group and quantity and we'll confirm route and pricing.
Groupage or FTL — which should I choose?
Groupage is cheaper for shipments under ~10 pallets or roughly half a trailer. FTL is faster, more flexible on collection/delivery dates and avoids consolidation handling. For high-value or fragile cargo, FTL usually wins on total landed cost once damage risk is priced in.
What documents do I need for a UK ↔ Turkey shipment?
Standard: commercial invoice, packing list, EORI number (UK side), and a CMR waybill. For preferential duty: ATR certificate. For transit: T1 or T2 declaration on NCTS. We prepare or check all of these for you.
Can you collect and deliver door-to-door?
Yes — door-to-door collection and delivery is our default service across the UK, Turkey and most of mainland Europe. We can also do port-to-port or hub-to-hub if you have your own first or last mile.
